Academia Sinica-Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

Int’l students eligible.  Academia Sinica (AS), a prominent national research institution in Taiwan, offers opportunities for around 600 postdoctoral fellows each year.  In the fields of mathematics and physical sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences.

AIF - The William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India

Only for US citizens/permanent residents/Indian citizens. The William J. Clinton Fellowship for service in India offers highly skilled graduate students and young professionals the opportunity to partner with leading NGOs and social enterprises in India in order to “accelerate impact and create effective projects that are replicable, scalable, and sustainable.” 

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS): Science & Technology Policy Fellowships

Int’l students NOT eligible. The AAAS Science & Technology (S&T) Policy Fellowships are opportunities for Ph.D. graduates to glean professional development and public service through engaging in scientifically informed, evidence-based policy and practice. These fellowships accommodate a broad range of disciplines in the science and engineering fields.

American Association of University (AAUW): Fellowships and Grants

Int’l students NOT eligible; The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is one of the world’s largest sources of funding for women graduate students.  AAUW is provides funding for several hundred fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofit organizations.

American Bar Foundation - ABF Doctoral/Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program

Int’l students eligible. The ABF Doctoral/Post-Doctoral Fellowships are opportunities for Ph.D. candidates in the social sciences who are in the dissertation phase degrees.  Doctoral and proposed research must be in the general area of socio-legal studies or in social scientific approaches to law, the legal profession, or legal institutions, with research addressing salient issues in the field, while also exhibiting promise of contributing to social scientific understanding of law and legal process.

American Bar Foundation - Law and Social Science Dissertation Fellowship & Mentoring Program

Int’l students NOT eligible. ABF Law and Social Science Dissertation Fellowships are opportunities for third-, fourth-, and fifth-year Ph.D. students in the social sciences or humanities who specialize in the field of law and social science and whose research interests grapple with the issues of law and inequality.

American Civil Liberties Union Fellowships & Internships

Int’l students eligible. The American Civil Liberties Union offers several fellowships to recent J.D. graduates in the areas of human rights and civil liberties.

American Educational Research Association (AERA): Funding Opportunities

Int’l students eligible; The American Educational Research Association (AERA) small research grants and training for graduate students who conduct studies of education policy and practice using quantitative methods and including the analysis of data from the large-scale data sets sponsored by National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and NSF.

American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC): Graduate Fellowships

Only for American Indigenous people. The American Indian Graduate Center offers students fellowships, scholarships and low-interest loans to American Indian scholars pursuing a graduate level degree.

American Institute of Indian Studies - Grants and fellowships

Int’l students eligible. The American Institute of Indian Studies provides funding opportunities for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral scholars conduct research on issues involving the country of India.

American-Scandinavian Foundation Grants  Fellowships and Awards

Only for Americans and Scandinavians; The ASF's award program for study and research abroad awards fellowships and grants to graduate students in study or research projects with a Scandinavian focus.

Americorps Legal Fellowships / Equal Justice Works Fellowships

Int’l students NOT eligible; Americorps Legal Fellowships Equal Justice Works program provides paid public interest fellowships to recent law school graduates to provide legal assistance to underserved populations and causes.

Arthur C. Helton Fellowship

Int’l students eligible; Helton Fellowships award micro-grants for law students to pursue field work and research on significant issues involving international law  human rights  humanitarian affairs  and related areas.

DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service): Scholarships and Fellowships

Int’l students eligible; The German Academic Exchange Service offers scholarships  research grants  and fellowships to graduate –level students and doctoral students in the humanities  social sciences and physical science who would like to conduct research in Germany.

Dan David Prize

Int’l students eligible. The Dan David Prize awards scholarships to doctoral and post-doctoral students studying at recognized universities on an international scale who meet the research criteria put forth in the selected fields. 

Dwight David Eisenhower Graduate Transportation Fellowships

Int’l students eligible. The Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship Program (DDETFP) awards fellowships to students pursuing degrees and conducting research in transportation-related disciplines.

Embassy of France in the United States: Chateaubriand Fellowship

Int’l students eligible. The Chateaubriand Fellowship is a funding poortunity offered by the Embassy of France in the United States to doctoral students enrolled in American universities to conduct research in France for a period ranging from 4 to 9 months. All Chateaubriand fellows receive a stipend, a round trip ticket to France and health insurance.

Five College Fellowship Program

Int’l students eligible. Five College Fellowships offer year-long residencies for doctoral students in the fields of the Humanities, the Fine Arts or the Social Sciences who are in the midst of completing dissertations. The program  is intended to support scholars from “under-represented groups and/or scholars with unique interests and histories whose engagement in the Academy will enrich scholarship and teaching.”

Fulbright Scholar Program

Int’l students eligible; The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduate students to study abroad for one academic year.

Fulbright U.S. Students Program

Int’l students NOT eligible. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides funding to graduate-level students conducting individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs. Applicants must demonstrate the capacity for exceptional independent research s well as a general knowledge of the history, culture, and current events of the countries to which they are applying.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program

Int’l students NOT eligible. The Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Program enables individual doctoral students to conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to 12 months by providing grants to the students’ colleges and universities.

Hagley Museum & Library- Research Grants and Fellowships

Int’l students eligible; The Hagley Museum and Library offers the Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowships to doctoral students who have completed all course work for the doctoral degree and are conducting research on their dissertation and whose research on important historical questions would benefit from use of Hagley's research collections.

Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowships

Int’l students eligible. Henry Belin du Pont Dissertation Fellowships offer funding to graduate students who have completed all course work for the doctoral degree and are in the midst of conducting research on their dissertation. Ph.D. candidates whose research on important historical questions would benefit from use of Hagley's research collections are encouraged to apply.

Henry Luce Foundation Programs

Int’l students eligible. The Luce Scholars Program is a nationally competitive fellowship program intended to provide funding opportunities to graduate-level students who wish to glean a better understanding of Asia.

Korean American Scholarship Foundation- Scholarships

Only Korean-Americans can apply; The Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF) awards scholarships Korean-American graduate students. The criteria for eligibility is broad, as the KASF looks to “assist Korean American students in pursuit of academic and personal achievement, encourage community and civic service as an integral part of leadership development, and nurture the sense of pride and confidence in Korean cultural heritage and tradition.”

Kosciuszko Foundation: Fellowships and Grants for Polish Citizens

Int’l students NOT eligible. The Kosciuszko Foundation annually awards a number of Fellowships/Grants to Polish citizens for advanced study, research, and/or teaching at universities and other institutions of higher learning in the United States.  Applicants must have completed their Ph.D.

Kosciuszko Foundation: Tuition Scholarship Program for Americans

Int’l students NOT eligible. Kosciuszko Foundation Tuition Scholarships provide funding opportunities to American students of Polish descent for graduate studies in any field at colleges and universities in the United States. 

Lady Davis Fellowship Trust: Fellowships

Int’l students eligible. The Lady Day Fellowship Trust offers fellowships to student abroad conducting either graduate studies and or post-doctoral work.

Lemelson Center Fellows Program

Int’l students eligible. The Lemelson Center Fellows Program offers fellowships to pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars engaged in creative research into the study of invention and innovation.

Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation Programs

Int’l students eligible; The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation offers fellowships to promising doctoral students in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and the law. Each academic institution chooses the Fellows by recommendation from one or more distinguished professors.

Markowski-Leach Scholarships

Int’l students eligible; The Markowski-Leach Scholarship awards LGBTQ graduate students who plan to attend San Francisco State University Stanford University  or University of California Berkeley* during the academic year of the award.

National Academies: Fellowships

Int’l students eligible. The Fellowships Office (FO) of the National Academies offers fellowships to pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars. These fellowships are designed with the intention of promoting the career development of the researchers and scholars for the academic, federal, industrial and international workforce. These fellowships are made possible on behalf of government and private/foundation sponsors.

National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Scholarship Program

Int’l students NOT eligible; The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) annually awards scholarships to outstanding graduate students who are either Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievement or students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.

National Science Foundation (NSF): Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Int’l students NOT eligible; Several programs provide either direct (i.e.  from NSF) or indirect (i.e.  from an awardee institution) funding for graduate students at various levels and from different disciplines in the physical sciences.

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE): Academic Fellowships and Scholarships

Int’l students eligible. The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education offers a variety of Fellowships to Graduate Students in the social and physical sciences.

Int’l students NOT eligible; The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans supports the graduate educations of 30 New Americans – permanent residents or naturalized citizens if born abroad; otherwise children of naturalized citizen parents -- each year.

Phi Beta Kappa Society: Awards and Fellowships

Int’l students eligible. The Phi Beta Kappa Society offers several funding opportunities in the form of awards and fellowships to scholars in the arts and sciences.

Pittsburgh Foundation: Programs for Graduate Students

Int’l students eligible. The Pittsburgh Foundation offers a variety of different scholarships to graduate students in the Pittsburgh area.

Point Foundation Scholarship

Int’l students eligible; The Point Foundation awards scholarships to promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership.

Presidential Management Fellows Program

Int’l students NOT eligible; Presidential Management Fellowships are awarded to graduate students who are looking to grow professionally through service to the country.

Skadden Fellowship Foundation

Int’l students eligible; The Skadden Fellowship Program provides fellowships to graduating law students who wish to pursue public interest work, particularly by providing legal services to the poor (including the working poor), the elderly, the homeless and the disabled, as well as those deprived of their civil or human rights.

Smithsonian Institute- Fellowship Opportunities

Int’l students eligible. The Smithsonian Institute offers a variety of fellowship opportunities to graduate students, doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Program

Int’l students eligible; The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty-one Fellowships to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study.
